A VERY special little girl from Doagh
who is bravely battling serious illness, and the sterling work of the
medical experts who have helped her, have together inspired an
fundraising drive which has resulted in a staggering £26,000 being
raised for worthy causes in just a matter of months.
Two-year-old Connie Taylor was born
with a terminal illness which means she has no muscle function in her
throat, stomach, bladder or bowel. As a baby she was fed artifically
through a tube straight into her stomach, but as time passed, Connie
developed serious liver disease.
Connie was extremely
fortunate however, because in August last year, she became one of the
youngest people in the UK to receive a multi-visceral operation at
Birmingham Children's Hospital, when her stomach, small bowel, liver and
pancreas were transplanted.
Connie's throat still has no
muscle function so she is unable to eat conventional food, and is fed
instead via a naso-gastric tube. However, the transplant surgery has
helped Connie significantly, and her general health is now much
improved.
Describing his daughter, Connie's teacher dad,
Nigel said: "She's fantastic, Connie is a little fighter. And despite
all her problems, and the fact that at just 2 years old she has already
had 24 operations, she is always smiling.
"Since the transplant she has come on leaps and bounds and likes nothing better than running around with her twin brother Daniel
Two routes to choose from this year 90km challenge or a 16km route which can be riden twice to make it 32km. Both routes are on the events page.
Our aim is to keep you informed and up to date with any special and organized events which we are planing to hold.
